Geoff Dyer’s career stretched across more than fifty years and produced a body of work that shaped the visual language of Tasmanian painting. He was a finalist more than twenty times in major national awards including the Archibald Prize, the Wynne Prize and the Sulman Prize. In 2003 he received the Archibald Prize for his portrait of Richard Flanagan, becoming only the second Tasmanian artist to achieve the honour. Dyer’s work is represented in an impressive range of public institutions throughout Australia. His paintings and works on paper appear in national collections, state museums, regional galleries and significant university holdings. His profile is further supported by inclusion in major corporate collections across the country. Together these placements speak to the regard held for his contribution to Australian landscape and portraiture.
